History of the Island

Una Una`s name is coming from language of Malay and it means Coconuts. It is the Island of a million coconut trees, which is the main export of the island and has been transported directly to Malaysia back in the days. That`s why Una Una Island had also Malaysian Ringgit instead of Indonesian Rupiah. This is the reason why Una Una got its nick name Ringgit Island. Una Una’s coconut’s are still the number one export, nowadays they are exported to the mainland to Ampana.
